Big Brother creator John De Mol has made a bid to buy Channel Five prompting rumours that the reality show will move to the loss-making station when it ends on Channel 4 this year.
De Mol created Big Brother in the 1990s when he ran Endemol in Holland and if he successfully buys the channel several Endemol shows will move to the station.
The reality TV show has been linked to a number of other channels including Channel Five and Sky but both have previously said that they did not see themselves taking on the programme which may change under the new ownership of Channel Five.
Big Brother finishes on Channel 4 at the end of the current series.

Bookmakers William Hill have made Caoimhe the favourite to be evicted from the Big Brother house on Friday.
The Dublin student has been given odds of 8/13 with Shabby coming in second at 6/4 and Sunshine the least likely to be evicted at 9/1.
A spokesperson for William Hill said: “We were under the impression that Shabby was all but certain to go but Big Brother aficionados watching the live feed saw that Caoimhe was kicking off in the house.”
Corin is the current favourite to win the final series of the reality show with odds of 3/1.

Geri Halliwell is reportedly disappointed by the backlash over her recent appearance as a guest judge at the X Factor auditions.
The Spice Girl stood in for pregnant Dannii Minogue at the Glasgow auditions and was allegedly booed throughout the day and at one point walked out.
A source told Now: “She was really excited when Simon Cowell asked her to guest judge. She’d expressed interest in this role ages ago and seemed to be pinning everything on it. But her appearance turned into a disaster and she’s gutted.
The source continued: “She tried playing the baddie judge, but only Simon Cowell has the charisma to get away with that. She made too many ill-thought out comments and failed to gauge the audience’s mood.”
The pop star had hoped to be offered a permanent position as a judge on the US version of the show.

La Toya Jackson has claimed that Michael Jackson was murdered for the rights to his back catalogue, reports suggest.
The King of Pop passed away in June last year after a fatal dose propofal was administered and La Toya has claimed that Michael always knew he would be murdered.
In an interview on GMTV, she said: “I never had a doubt. You must remember from the day that I found out that Michael was no longer with us, when my mother screamed ‘he’s dead’ on the phone, I just went into this, ‘Who did it?’.
“Michael was murdered for his catalogue – that’s the bottom line. He was murdered for his catalogue and they knew that, and they knew Michael was much more, worth so much more dead than alive.
“His children deserve the truth. I think his parents deserve the truth, his family and his fans. Personally I think it is a slap in the face, not just to Michael but to the entire family. It’s totally unfair, it’s wrong and it was not an accident.”
It is estimated that Michael’s estate is currently worth £670 million.

It has been confirmed that this summer’s series of Big Brother will definitely be the final series of the reality show to air on Channel 4.
Previous reports suggested that the show might return in its celebrity format after the success of Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year.
When asked if he would rule out the return of the programme, Channel 4 Chief Executive David Abraham told The Sun: “I personally would.”
The popularity of the show has increased on last year with viewing figures being almost half a million higher than this point in the previous series.
A two week all stars version of the show is due to air at the end of this series with this year’s winner and previous winners and popular housemates from previous shows.

Govan is the favourite to be evicted from the Big Brother house this Friday.
Ben, Govan, Shabby and Dave were orginally nominated by their fellow housemates for the second eviction of the series but Shabby won a task saving herself from eviction and nominated Mario to take her place.
Paddy Power claim Govan is the 2/5 favourite to be evicted with Ben coming in second at 9/4. Dave and Mario are unlikely to leave the country’s most famous house with Dave receiving odds of 8/1 and Mario 14/1.
Govan has proved unpopular with the viewing public after stirring up trouble between the various groups in the house.
A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “After all these years Big Brother hasn’t changed all that much. It’s still as bitchy as ever. At odds of 2/5 it looks a safe bet that Govan will be gone come Friday.”
Corin is currently the favourite to win the show with Steve and Josie following closely behind.

Kerry Katona’s current boyfriend Adam Waldron has alledgedly turned down her invitation to move into her new home in Godstone, Surrey.
According to a report in the Daily Star Kerry’s handyman boyfriend has said that he needs to remain in Warrington for work purposes.
A source said: “Kerry is feeling isolated away from her family and friends but knows she has to stay in the south for the sake of her career.
“She thought showing Adam what a wonderful life she has there would persuade him to move. But he’s explained that he has his contacts in Warrington who get him work and he needs to stay at home.”
Kerry began seeing Waldron after she split from her husband Mark Croft earlier in the year.

Katie Price is to force guests attending her second wedding to Alex Reid to sign a confidentiality agreement or they will be turned away, reports suggest.
The glamour model is hoping that the documents, which are being issued with the invitations, will stop stories of the special day being leaked to the press.
The couple are also contracted by ITV 2 to keep the ceremony under wraps as it is due to be televised exclusively on the channel.
A source told The Sun: “It is very cloak and dagger. They haven’t confirmed where it is, even though they’re already erecting marquees.”
A number of celebrity guests are rumoured to be attending the event including Piers Morgan, Perez Hilton, Michelle Heaton, Danielle Lloyd and Emma B.
