The death of Boyzone singer Stephen Gately is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

The star was staying at his house in Port Andratx on the Spanish island of Majorca and passed away at 1.45pm. He died in his sleep following a night out.

A statement from police said: “At the moment, it is not known how he died. There are no signs of suspicious circumstances.”

Gately was on holiday with his partner Andrew Cowles, whom he married three years ago.

Family and friends of the singer, including his Boyzone bandmates, are said to be flying out to Majorca today.
