Simon Cowell has admitted that he almost “walked away” from Susan Boyle after she came second in Britain’s Got Talent.
The Scottish singer is currrently signed to Simon’s SyCo label but wouldn’t have been had she not insisted that she wanted to work hard at building a successful music career.
Appearing on Newsnight, Simon said: “I said to [her family] at the time, the truth is, if this is too much for her or if she doesn’t want to do it, we’ll rip the contract up. No-one is going to be forced into doing anything.
“We were going to make a lot of money and we have, but I would have walked away from that, I would.”
Simon reluctantly confessed that he is to make more money from Susan’s debut album I Dreamed A Dream than she is. He said: “That’s normally the way it operates, but she’s going to make a lot of money.”

Susan Boyle has said that she has no plans to move from her council house in Scotland when she receives payment for her debut album.
The Britain’s Got Talent star has revealed that she plans to buy her council home as she does not want to unsettle her cat Pebbles.
Speaking to the News of the World, Susan said: ”I don’t want to be moving an inch away from my family, and Pebbles doesn’t want to move. She’s lived there all her life and cats hate upping sticks.
“I’m the wee wifey with the mop and the cat next door. It’s what keeps me grounded – remembering I am just that wifey. And Pebbles would hate to live anywhere posh.”
The singer is due to get a £100,000 royalty cheque after her record became the most pre-recorded album in history and she plans to spend £65,000 on the house.
A friend of Susan said: “She has liaised closely with the council, and everything’s been done according to the law. She has the right to buy like any long-standing tenant.”

Susan Boyle has spoken publicly for the first time about her breakdown following Britain’s Got Talent.
During a pre-recorded interview shown on the final night of America’s Got Talent, Susan said: “I don’t remember much about the final. All I remember is being put in an ambulance and taken to a clinic. I was tired. I look back now and it was a necessity because I was so tired.”
The Scottish singer went on to say: “I used to be a spectator looking outward at the world. Now I am part of that world. I am not frightened, I am going to embrace it because I feel more confident in myself. I am more able to cope, more able to take part in the dream.”

George Sampson, the winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2008 has reportedly been dropped by Simon Cowell’s label.
The dancer was released from Cowell’s Syco company after an alleged argument between the pair.
Earlier this year it was reported that George felt second best to Simon’s other acts such as Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke.
A source told the Daily Mail: “George just didn’t prove as marketable as Simon had hoped.
“When acts like George win the show, it’s much harder for them to forge a successful and moneyspinning career compared with a singer, like Susan Boyle.”
It has also been reported that Sampson said he owed money to Cowell for the production costs of his recent DVD.
However, a Syco spokeswoman replied: “There is never a case where artists owe money and nor do marketing or promotion costs come from their percentage. In addition they also get an advance on projects.
“They could work together again in the future. The door is very much open for any other projects that come up.”
