X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke’s mother has responded to her daughter’s claims that they do not get along.
In an interview with Marie Claire Alexandra said that her mother struggles to deal with her fame and is jealous of her success.
Burke’s mother, Melissa Bell, told the Sunday Mirror: “It’s all very upsetting. And she’s not even a success herself yet. I hope she is, but we don’t even know how her follow-up single is going to do.
“What kind of mother is jealous of her daughter? She doesn’t have millions but when she does she’ll look after me.
“If she gets the best then I get the best and getting my life-saving treatment [for kidney disease] – that’s my priority.”
On Alexandra moving out of home at the age of 16, her mother said: “In Caribbean families you have to respect your parents. She needed to experience life, to see if the grass is greener – and she did. I don’t know where she went but the door was always open.”
Melissa believes that her daughter would not have done the interview if she did not have a single to promote: “It’s upsetting,” she said. “I think her PR people are responsible. It’s about getting sympathy votes.”

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has admitted that she would not be able to cope with the new X Factor auditions.
The singer told The Mirror that she thinks it is easier to sing in front of the judges than in front of a live audience of thousands during the first audition.
Burke said: “I would never have won with the new format. God, it’s scary performing in front of Simon [Cowell] full stop.
“But to perform in front of thousands of people who will judge you – because sometimes they boo, or they laugh, or even cry – is so scary.”
Alexandra, who wowed the judges during her first audition, continued: “You can’t be everyone’s cup of tea. To only have four judges to deal with is better.
“For those that have gone out there and done it, it shows guts and courage. I look up to them because I don’t know if I could have done it and won.”
